The honest answer

Seven days in Uganda is enough for a strong first trip, but not enough for "everything". The best shape is one headline experience, one classic safari park, and enough breathing room that you do not spend the whole week in a vehicle.

For most first-time travellers, the headline experience is gorilla trekking. Then you choose one main safari add-on: Queen Elizabeth, Murchison Falls, or Lake Mburo. If you want chimps in Kibale as well, seven days becomes tight. Ten days is better.

Our longer route is the Uganda 10-Day Classic Safari, but this 7-day version is the leaner shape for travellers with fixed leave.

A good 7-day route

Day 1: Arrive Entebbe. Do not rush to a park after a long flight. Sleep near Lake Victoria, check your bags, and start gently.

Day 2: Entebbe to Bwindi. Fly if budget allows. Drive only if you accept a long day. Your route depends on the permit sector.

Day 3: Gorilla trek. Early breakfast, ranger briefing, trek, one hour with the gorillas, then a slow afternoon. Do not plan a big transfer after the trek.

Day 4: Bwindi to Queen Elizabeth. This is the classic south-west bridge. If the route fits, use Ishasha for the tree-climbing lion landscape.

Day 5: Queen Elizabeth. Morning game drive and afternoon Kazinga Channel boat. This is a balanced day: land wildlife early, river wildlife later.

Day 6: Queen Elizabeth to Entebbe or Lake Mburo. If the group is tired, break the road at Lake Mburo. If you flew earlier and have stamina, return to Entebbe.

Day 7: Departure day. Keep it clean. Add Mabamba shoebill or Entebbe Botanical Gardens only if your flight time supports it.

When to choose Murchison instead

Choose Murchison over Queen Elizabeth if the Nile, waterfall, Ziwa rhinos, and giraffes matter more than the south-west circuit. It is a brilliant park, but the distances are less forgiving on a 7-day gorilla route. Murchison fits better in a 9 or 10-day trip unless you fly one leg.

What not to do

Do not cram Bwindi, Queen Elizabeth, Kibale, Murchison, and Jinja into seven days. It may look good as a map line. It will feel like a transport plan with animals attached.

The premium version of Uganda is not more stops. It is better pacing.

If you are travelling with children, older parents, or first-time Africa guests, protect the first and last nights. The middle can carry adventure. The ends should feel controlled.
