H1: Kampala Street-Food Walking Tour Sub: "Six neighbourhoods, ten dishes, three hours. With a local food writer who knows whose rolex is best."

What you eat (and where)

  • The rolex — Uganda’s national street food (chapati-rolled omelette with tomato, onion, cabbage). We compare two vendors a block apart and you tell us who wins.
  • Muchomo — grilled goat skewers, charcoal, hot off the brazier.
  • Mandazi & spiced tea — soft fried dough at a back-alley tea stall.
  • Katogo — matoke (steamed plantain) stewed with beef or beans, the classic breakfast.
  • Luwombo — meat stewed in banana leaves, sample portion.
  • Nsenene (seasonal) — grasshoppers, salt-fried, a delicacy you should try once.
  • Gonja — sweet roasted plantain.
  • Passion-fruit juice + a local craft ginger soda to close.

Make it part of a longer trip

This tour is the right way to spend your first afternoon in Kampala — landing-day legs, no driving. Pair it with Mabamba Shoebill Half-Day → the next morning, then start the safari.

Good to know

  • Comfortable shoes, you’ll walk on uneven pavements.
  • Vegetarian and halal options available — tell us in the booking form.
  • We’ll skip the nsenene if you’d rather; nobody is forced into anything.
  • Light rain is fine; in a downpour we move into covered eateries — same menu.

FAQ

Is street food in Kampala safe? The vendors we use are the ones we eat at ourselves. We’ve curated the route over years and we go with you. You won’t be left to guess.

Will I be very full at the end? You’ll have eaten a real meal’s worth. Skip lunch beforehand and bring an appetite.

Is it walkable for older travellers? 3 km over 3.5 hours is gentle. Tell us in the form if anyone needs a slower pace; we’ll adjust.
