EMAIL 1 — Day 1 — "What kind of Uganda trip are you planning?"

Subject: Day 1 — there are four kinds of Uganda trip From: Remmy N., Hello East Africa

Hi {{first_name}},

Welcome to the course. I’m Remmy. I run Hello East Africa in Kampala. Over the next 7 days I’ll walk you through how I plan trips for guests like you — one short email a day. By Day 7 you’ll have a real, opinionated plan for your Uganda trip.

Let’s start with the question almost no one asks themselves first:

What kind of Uganda trip are you actually planning?

In our experience there are four shapes:

1. The Gorilla Trip — 3–5 days. One memory, fully delivered.

2. The Classic Uganda Safari — 7–10 days. Gorillas + Murchison + Queen Elizabeth.

3. The Country Trip — 12–16 days. Above + Kidepo, Sipi Falls, Jinja.

4. The Homecoming — variable. A diaspora trip woven with family, slow days, and one or two safari highlights.

Most people land on shape #2 by accident. They should have chosen on purpose.

One action today: reply to this email with a single number — 1, 2, 3, or 4. I read every reply.

Tomorrow we’ll go deep on the headline animal experience.

EMAIL 2 — Day 2 — "Gorillas, chimps, or both?"

Subject: Day 2 — gorillas, chimps, or both?

Hi {{first_name}},

Most people come to Uganda for gorillas. A smaller group come for chimps. A surprising number could pick one and don’t realise the other is also possible.

Quick comparison:

| | Gorilla trekking | Chimpanzee tracking |

|—|—|—|

| Where | Bwindi or Mgahinga (south-west) | Kibale Forest (west) |

| Permit (2026) | USD 800 | USD 250 |

| Trek length | 1–6 hours | 2–4 hours |

| Time with the primates | 1 hour | 1 hour |

| Cost-feel | Premium, headline | Add-on, affordable |

If your trip is 3 days, choose one — almost always gorillas.

If your trip is 7+ days, do both. The drive between Bwindi and Kibale is one of the most scenic in Uganda.

One action today: decide — gorillas only, chimps only, or both. Note it down.

Tomorrow: Bwindi or Mgahinga (and how to think about Rwanda).

— Remmy

EMAIL 3 — Day 3 — "Bwindi or Mgahinga, and the Rwanda question"

Subject: Day 3 — Bwindi, Mgahinga, or Rwanda?

Hi {{first_name}},

If you’ve chosen gorillas, you have three options:

1. Bwindi (Uganda) — 4 sectors, ~22 habituated families, the most reliable trek. Default choice.

2. Mgahinga (Uganda) — 1 family (Nyakagezi), Virunga volcano backdrop, the quiet choice. Comes with some uncertainty.

3. Volcanoes (Rwanda) — easier logistics, USD 1,500 permit (vs Uganda’s 800). The premium choice.

For most first-time travellers: Bwindi (Buhoma or Rushaga sector).

If you have a week or more and want to do both countries: trek in Bwindi on one day, drive 30 minutes to the Rwanda border, trek in Volcanoes three days later. Two families, two countries, one trip.

One action today: pick a country. Then, if it’s Bwindi, the sector is something I can help with — reply with your dates and party size and I’ll suggest one.

Tomorrow: lodges.

— Remmy

EMAIL 4 — Day 4 — "Where to actually stay"

Subject: Day 4 — lodges by tier, by park, by family size

Hi {{first_name}},

Lodges shape the experience more than people expect. A bad lodge after a long drive can take the shine off a perfect day; a great lodge can carry a tired day.

Three tiers we work in:

Mid-range (USD 250–450/night/person, full board)

Bwindi: Buhoma Lodge · Murchison: Murchison River Lodge · Queen Elizabeth: Mweya Hostel Annex · Kibale: Primate Lodge.

Premium (USD 450–700/night/person)

Bwindi: Mahogany Springs · Murchison: Pakuba Safari Lodge · Queen Elizabeth: Mweya Safari Lodge · Kibale: Ndali Lodge.

Luxury (USD 700+/night/person)

Bwindi: Sanctuary Gorilla Forest Camp · Bwindi Lodge (Volcanoes Safaris) · Murchison: Baker’s Lodge · Queen Elizabeth: Ishasha Wilderness · Kibale: Kyaninga Lodge.

The best decision most travellers make: two nights at the trekking lodge, never just one. You arrive tired, you trek, you rest, you leave. One night doesn’t give you the rest day.

One action today: pick a tier you’re comfortable with — comfortable, premium, or luxury.

Tomorrow: the budget conversation.

— Remmy

EMAIL 5 — Day 5 — "What it actually costs" (Aya takes over)

Subject: Day 5 — a real Uganda budget, line by line From: Aya Yessentayeva, Hello East Africa

Hi {{first_name}},

I’m Aya — I design Uganda trips for travellers from the UAE and Central Asia, and for diaspora families coming home. Remmy handed me the cost email because honest pricing is the part I refuse to soften.

A common quote you’ll see online for "3 days, gorillas, Uganda" is around USD 1,500. That number rarely survives contact with a real itinerary in 2026. Here is one that does — per person, sharing, mid-range, fly-in:

| Line | USD |

|—|—|

| Gorilla permit | 800 |

| Bush flight Entebbe ↔ Kihihi (return) | 480 |

| 2 nights mid-range lodge, full board | 520 |

| Private 4×4 + driver-guide | 240 |

| Park & ranger fees | 60 |

| Planning, coordination, our margin | 250 |

| Total per person | ~2,350 |

Add international flights, visa, insurance.

Want luxury lodges? Add ~600/person. Drive-in instead of fly? Subtract ~700/person but add two days.

One action today: decide whether your shape is mid-range, premium, or luxury — and what your total per-person budget looks like.

Tomorrow: the practical day. Visa, vaccinations, packing.

— Aya

EMAIL 6 — Day 6 — "The practical day"

Subject: Day 6 — visa, vaccinations, packing

Hi {{first_name}},

The boring email, but the one that prevents the worst surprises.

Visa

– Uganda only → eVisa, USD 50, single entry, apply online before travel.

– Uganda + Kenya + Rwanda → East African Tourist Visa, USD 100, 90 days, multiple entry.

Vaccinations

Yellow Fever is required at Entebbe immigration. Bring the yellow WHO card.

– Routine (Hep A/B, Typhoid, MMR, Tetanus): recommended.

Anti-malarials: advised. Consult a travel doctor 6 weeks before travel.

Money

– USD is widely accepted at lodges. Bring clean, post-2009, large denominations (UWA does not accept old or torn USD).

– Ugandan shillings for the road — withdraw at ATMs in Entebbe or Kampala.

Packing — the trek essentials

– Sturdy, broken-in waterproof hiking boots (no new boots!)

– Long sleeves and long trousers (tuck into socks)

– Lightweight waterproof jacket

– Gardening gloves (real — the nettles are real)

– 2 L water bottle, electrolyte tablets

– Camera with a fast lens, no flash

– Cash for porter + ranger tip (~USD 30 trek day)

One action today: apply for your visa, book your vaccinations.

Tomorrow we put it all together.

— Remmy

EMAIL 7 — Day 7 — "Your one-page Uganda plan"

Subject: Day 7 — your one-page Uganda plan

Hi {{first_name}},

You’ve now made six real decisions:

1. What shape of trip (gorillas-only, classic, country, homecoming).

2. Gorillas, chimps, or both.

3. Bwindi, Mgahinga, or Rwanda.

4. Lodge tier (comfortable, premium, luxury).

5. Budget per person.

6. Visa and vaccination plan.

Reply to this email with all six answers in one block — even loosely written — and I’ll send you back a draft one-page Uganda plan within 24 hours. No fee, no commitment. We do this for everyone who finishes the course.

If by then you’ve decided you’d rather skip the email pingpong and talk it through, start the conversation here → and I’ll call.

Thanks for letting us walk you through it.
